Our volunteer organization is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals with learning
disabilities and their families through awareness, advocacy, education, service and collaborative efforts.
LDA believes that every person with learning disabilities can be successful at school, at work, in relationships, and in the community -- given the right opportunities. Join LDA or Donate to assist in creating those opportunities. 
2012 Sam Kirk Educator of the Year On January 10, 2013, Dr. Michael Martirano, the Superintendent of St. Mary’s County Public Schools, as well as several members of the St. Mary’s County Board of Education surprised Elizabeth (Lisa) Powell at Greenview Knolls Elementary School to congratulate her for being named the 2012 Sam Kirk Educator of the Year by the Learning Disabilities Association of America. Ms. Powell is a consummate teacher, active member of LDA and a dynamic contributor to her community. The 2010 Sam Kirk winner, Anne Fogel, was also on hand to congratulate Lisa Powell.
